“The best things in life are nearest:
Breath in your nostrils,
light in your eyes,
flowers at your feet,
duties at your hand,
the path of right just before you.
Then do not grasp at the stars,
but do life’s plain, common work as it comes,
certain that daily duties and daily bread
are the sweetest things in life.”
~ Robert Louis Stevenson
My heart is beginning to settle into this calling of motherhood. I am finding more peace and contentment in the moments. In the ordinary days, I am less restless for more. God has given me all I need.
This season is like rich, sweet honey oozing over. My cup overflows. It is like the first ripe peach of the season. Dripping with sugary goodness, still warm from the afternoon sun.
This is my spring and I will choose to run bare foot through wild flowers. With eyes wide open, I will watch with wonder as my children reach for the stars. The light of life sparkling in their eyes.
I have no need to reach for something bigger, better or greater. The best things in life are right here and there is nothing sweeter.
Fran says
It is sweet to hold the future in your arms like beautiful blossoms on the peach tree. It is sweeter still to harvest the fruit and be nourished. I am in that harvest season of mothering. And it is sweet!
